Men’s key hair cuts & hairstyles: 2012
Slicked back undercut --> With the influence of hit shows like BoardWalk Empire, expect to see the slicked back undercut to be the hairstyle of choice for fashion-forward men in 2012. The new year will see the undercut get a modern facelift with refined touches, updating a haircut that
originated in the 1920s.
Good for: straight hair & hair that can be straightened
Brit-rock indie hairstyle -->The Brit rock hairstyle is a hair swept forwards style for young guys that gives them a fringe. It’s to be worn with nonchalantly and with swagger. It’s not necessarily British, nor is it necessarily the domain of rockers, but what it is is cool.
Suitable for guys with everything from straight to curly hair, the Brit rock hairstyle is all about length through the top. It’s also about texture. That texture can be a trait of your hair, or can come about courtesy of hair cut that introduces lots of slicing, chipping, razoring and deep point cutting.
Good for: straight hair, wavy hair, curly hair that can be relaxed
Rockabilly Hairstyles -->
The term "Rockabilly" refers to a hybrid of country and rock n' roll music that dates to the mid-1950s. The music has endured as a subculture, with occasional popular revivals. The first U.S. revival came in 1982, with the release of the Stray Cats' album "Built for Speed." Stray Cats front man Brian Setzer was also a prominent figure in the 1997 neo-swing movement, which incorporated elements of swing, punk, rockabilly, and hot jazz for dancers. Contemporary fans tend to follow vintage fashion trends: pegged blue jeans, tattoos, wallet chains, and motorcycle boots are the basics of the male rockabilly look. High, elaborate hairdos are the crowning glory.
Good for: straight hair, wavy hair, curly hair
Men’s quiff -->The last time we saw the quiff popular as a men’s hairstyle trend it as infused with rock overtones. With the indie haircut dominating the music-orientated hairstyles, the quiff becomes something altogether more refined in 2012. It’s still infused with attitude, but, as far as men’s haircut trends this year, it’s a very different attitude. Read our guide to the new quiff for a run down for all the different quiff cuts, vintage inspiration, and styling and product recommendations.
